Changing the Oil and Oil Filter
There are hundreds of moving parts in your vehicle’s engine. The oil that is in your engine serves as two jobs for your vehicle. It can reduce the amount of friction by putting a layer of oil between all these moving parts. It also helps to cool the parts of the engine as it circulates through. Without oil in your engine, these moving parts create so much heat that they will eventually melt together and cause your engine to lock up. The filter will also need to be changed occasionally, as that too will collect dirt and debris over time.
Changing your vehicle’s oil helps keep the internal parts of the engine lubricated and cool. It also keeps the moving parts from grinding against each other which then causes wear and damage to them. By taking your vehicle in for its regular appointments, your mechanic will let you know when you need your next oil change. Without frequent oil changes, dirt and sludge can build up in the engine. This is an issue, as the old dirty oil will not lubricate the moving parts of your vehicle as well as new fresh oil will. The dirty oil can lead to serious damage to parts of your vehicle. It may even lead to you replacing the engine if things get severe enough.
Oil changes are important to help keep your vehicle properly lubricated and in good working order. Without this, moving parts will begin to wear down as the friction increases. If you do not have your oil changed regularly, this may cause engine damage as the oil becomes thick and sticky. This old oil then clings to moving engine parts and instead of lubricating the parts it will then destroys them. By having scheduled oil changes, you can help avoid these problems. If you do not change your oil on a regular basis, you can run the risk of running low or circulating dirty oil through the engine. Running low on oil can leave the engine parts grinding together without lubrication which can lead to them fusing together, wearing down, jamming, or even your engine seizing.
Having the oil filter changed is just as important as the oil changed. When you bring in your vehicle we will be able to tell you when your filter needs to be changed. It usually does not have to be changed as frequently as the oil itself does. The oil filter holds all the excess sludge and grim that the oil catches while lubricating the engine. It sifts out the solid particles while allowing the oil to flow unrestricted through the engine. Changing the filter is vital to the vehicle’s maintenance because without a new filter, the engine oil will pass through the old filter, making it less effective and dirty.
